Application to Change Conditions, Extend Your Stay or Remain in Canada as a Visitor, Student, Worker or Temporary Resident Permit Holder.
If you are a visitors, student, temporary foreign worker or temporary resident permit holder, you will be admitted to Canada for a specific period of time. This period of time is confirmed by the stamp or handwritten date in your passport, or the visitor record, study permit, work permit or temporary resident permit issued to you. If there is no stamp or handwritten date endorsed in your passport or no other document issued to you stating the date by which you must leave Canada, your temporary resident status will expire six months from the date you arrived.
It is illegal to remain in Canada beyond this date. It is also illegal to work or study without authorization. If you wish to work or study or remain beyond the initial period of your admission, you must apply to either change the conditions of your entry or extend your stay. This is possible in many cases, though not all cases.
If you have any problems and have lost your status, you may apply for restoration of status. This application must be filed within 90 days from the date of your loss of status. You will have to make a compelling case as to why your application should be approved and your status restored.
