Rehabilitation

Rehabilitation for Persons who are Inadmissible to Canada because of Past Criminal Activity If you are applying for temporary or permanent residence in Canada, you may be criminally inadmissible if you have been convicted of an offence in Canada. You may also be inadmissible if you have committed an offence outside of Canada that is considered a crime in Canada; or if you committed an act outside of Canada that is a crime in the country where it occurred and also under Canadian law. To determine this, you must evaluate the foreign convictions and laws and equate them to Canadian law.

A previous criminal conviction is not fatal to your application. You may overcome inadmissibility if you are deemed to have been rehabilitated. You may also apply for pardon or for individual rehabilitation. Rehabilitation removes the grounds of criminal inadmissibility. An application for rehabilitation can be filed either inside or outside Canada.
